Open Plan Staircase, Ash
This client had purchased a barn conversion house and wanted it to have that feature staircase which greeted them as they walked through the door. It needed to match the timber beams that are a particular highlight of the space they also needed to offer as much visibility as possible, with the open plan nature of the room, joining to the living room and kitchen behind. It needed to be a feature but not overly imposing of the space.
Our suggestion was to have an open plan staircase with glass embedded into the handrail and base rial, this would offer the best visibility to the living area of the front door and would also offer light to pass through the large overhead windows and onto the space below.
We used ash which is light enough to match the surrounding beams and keeps the tone in keeping to the house, the client used a clear stain to simply preserve the natural tones that are already present.
