With this staircase the main goal was to allow the staircase to be the feature of the hallway whilst still allowing for an uninterrupted view of the living spaces behind the staircase. In order to best achieve this we elected to design an open plan staircase with glass balustrade which enables an uninterrupted view of both the hallway and landing areas.
The steps of the staircase are made from laminated American White Oak, allowing for the thick chunky treads that give the staircase a quality feel. The bottom of the stairs is then finished with a floating landing at the bottom.
The staircase and landing areas where fitted without newel posts using structural glass that is fixed directly to the staircase and joists. We then finish the glass off by fixing a thin profile handrail directly on top which runs continually along the landing, down the stairs and finishes on top of the landing.
The staircase was finished with a black stain throughout so that it matches the internal doors and other joinery in the property.
