Case Study: Thornham

Client: RG Carter Building
Location: Thornham, Norfolk
Quantity: 5 Plots – 10 Staircases
Role: Supply & Install
Details:

This staircase is manufactured from solid tulipwood everywhere other than the continuous handrail, which runs from the wall on the second floor, across multiple wreathes, to the opening cap which starts the staircase. These tulipwood elements where eventually painted white, allowing for a great contrast between the hardwood handrail and leaving a clean finish against the walls.

The staircase is itself is cut string, with continuous curved nosing elements on the landing areas, with the carpet runner on the stairs breaking up the white of the staircase and lending to the cottage feel of the property.

Case Study: Altringham

Client: Mount Acre Properties
Location: Altringham
Quantity: 5 Plots – 10 Staircases
Role: Supply Only
Details:

The design brief from the client was to create a traditional, somewhat colonial, feel and also marry in with the materials already in use, with white walls and Oak LVT flooring.

The way we chose to create the colonial feel is through the newel posts which have machined, inlayed panels which add to the detail in the hallway and combine well with the doors, architraves and skirting board. The staircase also has a cut stringer, which is very American in style but adds greatly to the quality feel of the stairs.

The staircase has been made in a combination of American White Oak, which combines well with the flooring as well as softwoods which can then be painted white. Using softwood for the strings, newels, risers and spindles allows the customer to save on the overall cost, especially since these materials will be painted white on competition.

Case Study: Liverpool

Client: Wellcare Construction
Location: Croxteth, Liverpool
Quantity: 1 Staircase
Role: Design, Supply & Install
Details:

The space is very unique, with a vaulted ceiling and exposed timber beams, symmetrical diagonal windows at either end as well as a separate balustrade area looking over the door. With this the staircase that occupies this space needed to be special.

The staircase has a very specific specification, with tapered spindles as well as starting post, continuous wreathed handrails at all turns and self supporting balustrade. This was all to be constructed from American White Oak and a cut stringer with the spindles running directly down to the treads.

The undersides of the staircase where required to be open, with no structural posts underneath the stairs and for them to be self supporting. This open space underneath was then to be capped off with solid Oak linings on the underside creating a very contemporary view as you walk into the hallway.

Staircase Styles

When choosing the style and aesthetic of your development, the staircase is one of the most important elements, as it is usual the first item you see when walking into the property, it sets the theme from the get go. This makes it possibly the most important element!
