Oak Cut String Staircase – White Spindles
Working for the main contractor, we where tasked to create a staircase that had colonial, almost traditional, feel whilst being in a new build modern property. The staircase required needed to be a centrepiece in a large open hallway with a two sections of galleried landing balustrade that looked over the stairs and feature front door.
For this our main feature, unlike most spindles where the balustrade would be the centre piece, was the newel posts. These panelled, colonial style, posts are made in two sections with a large base with a main top post which is made with details inlays. based on the design of our newels the client then continued the panelled effect with timber wall panelling. The bottom two posts are 180m at the bottom and 140mm at the top with the rest of the post being 140mm at the bottom and 115mm at the bottom. These are solid American White Oak newel posts and are laminated, carved and machined at our manufacturing base in Liverpool.
The staircases Treads, Newel Posts, Handrail and Newel Caps are all Oak, which stands out fantastically against the white spindles, strings and risers (as well as the walls of the property). The Oak has a warming effect on the hallway as well and takes what could be a sterile hallway creates a softer more homely feel. This effect is also helped by the yellow light and feature tiles.
