Metal Spine Staircase – Oak Treads
Design:
A striking contemporary staircase designed entirely in-house, with guidance from the client, combining clean architectural lines with a floating appearance. The exposed fabricated steel saw tooth stringer creates a bold structural feature, while the open risers and frameless glass balustrade maximise light and openness throughout the space. A continuous American White Oak handrail softens the industrial detailing and brings warmth and balance to the overall design.
Layout:
Designed around a tall glazed stairwell, the staircase has been configured to allow natural light to travel freely between floors. The open tread construction and minimal balustrade detailing reduce visual weight, helping the staircase feel integrated into the surrounding architecture rather than enclosed within it. The mid-level landing creates a smooth transition between flights while maintaining uninterrupted sightlines through the property.
Materials:
The staircase features a fabricated steel saw tooth stringer paired with solid American White Oak treads and matching landings. Frameless structural glass balustrades provide safety without obstructing light or views, while the continuous Oak handrail adds a refined natural finish. The combination of steel, timber and glass creates a modern material palette that complements the clean architectural style of the home.
