Ash Central Spine Staircase – Metal Fixings
Design Brief
For this staircase the customer from the outset new they wanted a central spine staircase. This is due to the nature of their home being very contemporary with modern square finishes throughout from the light fitters to the general shape of the property.
Balustrade
For most central spine staircases we employ free standing structural glass, which allows it to act as the full balustrade mechanism as it is self supporting and even if damaged retails its shape and structure. The main decision on a central spine staircase is whether the glass will be fixed using timber capping’s or metal studs and on this occasion the client opted for metal studs.
Timber
This full staircase is made from American White Ash, with 100mm thick treads as well as a paid of 42mm stringers which are finished with an Ash back panel. Ash is a modern timber as it has less colour than timbers such as Oak making it more neutral in colour but has more eccentric grain which, in a hallway lacking in texture, can add that something else which is lacking.
