Ash Staircase – Grey Tinted Glass
For this staircase we were contacted by the main contractor to design and build a modern timber staircase for one of their new developments, with an emphasis on modern touches whilst using the natural colour of the timber to break up the neutral colour scheme that exists within the hallway.
For this staircase we chose to use American White Ash on all components other that the balustrade. This timber has a light colour, which helps hold the hallways already bright aesthetic, whilst also being characterful with a distinct grain that impacts visitors to the home. This is especially present with the joist linings, which when the ceiling thickness is 450mm, make a big impression.
The other important aspect of this house are the smoked, 10mm toughened, glazing panels. These panels have a dual purpose, first to create a light and airy room which seeks to be as minimal as possible and the second being to provide a small amount of additional privacy with the property overlooking a main road. It also adds tertiary contrasting colour where clear glass would be natural.
