Cut String Staircase – Black Continuous Handrail

Design:

This staircase design began with the inclusion of a voluted handrail at the bottom of the staircase, with the rest of the staircase following suit. The design was made to remove newel posts from the main staircase, giving it a continuous handrail, supported by the spindles as well as the larger supporting posts. The oval spindles are probably the second most important element, with a pattern emerging between that and the straight bar.

Materials:

The main timbers used in this staircase are American White Ash, for the back stained handrail and Redwood Pine for the treads, risers, strings as well as any other white elements. The balustrade components are then made from wrought steel, with 12mm section for the spindles and 30mm section for the top and bottom supporting posts.

Layout:

There are two staircases within this stairwell, with the lower staircase being a straight flight with two feature steps and the upper staircase being a winder staircase with three tapering steps. These two staircase are connected by a quadrant section of handrail which curves over 90 degrees.
