Cut Away Staircase, Oak
At Edwards & Hampson we created our own modern interpretation of a cut string staircase, the cut away staircase allows the stringer to follow the shape of the treads and risers at a steady curve.
With the galleried area overlooking the front entrance, maximising the amount of light available was crucial, therefor we elected to use free standing glass meaning no newel posts, spindles or handrail preventing light from entering the first floor.
The client elected to carpet up the stairs to beak up the colour of the oak and also plasterboard the underside of the stairs and paint them white in order to add contrast to the room.
