Oak Cut String Staircase – Free Standing Glass
Design:
A modern reinterpretation of a traditional cut string staircase, this bespoke cut-away string design brings a clean and contemporary edge to a classic form. The stringer follows the profile of the treads with a smooth, uninterrupted finish, specifically designed to work in harmony with glass. By removing the visual heaviness of traditional detailing, the staircase achieves a light, refined aesthetic while still showcasing its craftsmanship.
Layout:
Positioned within a large, open galleried space, the staircase is designed to maximise light flow throughout the entrance. The open plan arrangement, combined with the absence of newel posts and handrails, ensures minimal obstruction, allowing natural light to travel freely between levels and enhancing the sense of space.
Materials:
Constructed from Oak and paired with 17.5mm laminated glass, the staircase balances strength with elegance. The free-standing glass provides the structural integrity required without additional supports, maintaining a clean, open appearance. A dark oak finish has been applied to create contrast against the surrounding white interior, highlighting both the timber grain and the sharp, modern lines of the design.
