Ash Open Plan Staircase With Embedded Glass
This newly refurbished office space has been brought into the 21st century. The most important design point for this staircase is that it needs to be open plan. This is because of the shape of the well makes the staircase the central point and being the central point. Also, due to the lack of windows in the space we didn’t want to obstruct any potential natural light from reaching through the office.
In combination with the open treads, the client wanted a glass balustrade. This has similar benefits to the staircase being open plan, and if this had been spindles instead it would of closed the hallway off and made it feel smaller.
The timber chosen is American White Ash. This is because it allows for the correct colour balance with the rest of the hallway, acting as a go between for the white marble walls and the other timber features such as radiator covers, flooring and doors.
