Half Landing Staircase

Half Landing Staircases are two straight staircases, separated by a flat rectangular landing, which gives the staircase a U shape as it returns back on itself as it moves through 180 degrees.

Half landing staircases are quite common in square stairwells and can be quite beneficial when architects went to enclose the staircase in a smaller space. Usually this can mean that from most angles you struggle to see the balustrade on the stairs unless you are on the staircase itself.

These stairwells can quite often be designed with a window behind the staircase and in these circumstances can benefit from being open plan with clear lines of vision behind the stairs.
